Anonymize legal documents without breaking confidentiality
Contracts, court decisions, pleadings and exhibits are full of names and private details. ONYRI Sanitize masks them before you share a file with an expert, publish a ruling, build a template or ask an AI tool for a summary. The document never leaves your computer, so professional secrecy is not put at risk by the tool itself.
Runs 100% in your browser. Your file is never uploaded.
What ONYRI finds in legal documents
- Names of parties, witnesses, signatories and counsel
- Home and registered-office addresses
- Dates of birth and other identifying dates
- National ID, passport and social security numbers
- Company numbers: SIREN, SIRET, VAT, EIN
- IBAN and BIC in payment and escrow clauses
- Email addresses and phone numbers in correspondence
- Your own terms: case numbers or client code names, through custom rules
How to anonymize a legal document in three steps
- 1
Drop the contract or the ruling
PDF, Word or scan of a signed original. The file is opened in your browser. It is not sent to ONYRI or to anyone else.
- 2
Review party by party
Check the detected names, addresses and numbers. Add a party that was missed under “Also mask”: every occurrence in the document is covered at once.
- 3
Download and share
Choose black marker for a copy that leaves the firm. On Pro, choose token mode when readers must still follow who is who: [NAME1] sues [NAME2], and the reasoning stays clear.

Why lawyers and legal teams need in-browser processing
A lawyer cannot hand a client file to an unknown server just to hide a few names. Confidentiality duties apply to the tools you use, not only to the people you talk to. An upload-based redaction service adds a third party to every file.
With ONYRI there is no such third party for the document. The engine runs locally. Our servers know that you have an account and which plan you are on. They do not know what you open, what it says, or who it concerns.
This also makes AI tools usable on real work. Tokenize the contract, ask the assistant to find weak clauses, and read the answer with the labels in place. The model saw [NAME1] and [IBAN1], never the client.
What you should know before you share the file
- Names are found by rules, not by understanding the case. Rare names, initials and nicknames can be missed. A lawyer must review the preview before the file leaves.
- Context can identify a person even with the name removed: a job title, a rare event, a small town. No tool detects that for you. Read the masked text with this in mind.
- Token mode is pseudonymization. Under GDPR Recital 26, pseudonymized data remains personal data. Use black-marker mode for publication.
- ONYRI is a technical aid. It does not replace your firm's publication rules, court anonymization guidelines or legal advice.
Anonymizing legal documents: frequent questions
Can I use it on documents covered by professional secrecy?
The document stays on your device: it is read and masked in your browser and is never sent to ONYRI. Whether a given use fits your professional rules remains your own assessment.
Can I anonymize a court decision for publication?
Yes, as a first pass. Use black-marker mode, then reread the result. Indirect identifiers, such as a rare profession or a place, must be judged by a human.
Will the same person get the same label throughout?
Yes. In token mode, identical values share one token. [NAME1] on page 2 is [NAME1] on page 40. The reasoning of the document stays easy to follow.
How do I mask case numbers or client code names?
Add a custom rule in Detection settings, or type the term under “Also mask” for a single document. Rules can be saved in a profile, for example one per practice area.
Can a whole team share the same rules?
Not yet as a shared workspace. Today the Team plan gives each seat the full Pro engine, billed per user. Shared rules and profiles, member roles and audit logs are coming soon. Contact us before you subscribe for a team. Documents always stay on each person's device.
